Fun Facts about Spaceship Earth

I recently came across a thread on Twitter, and it was different facts about Spaceship Earth that the person had heard on a behind the scenes tour. I wanted to share the facts on here because, if you didn't know, Spaceship Earth is my favorite ride at Disney World. I also added some other facts that I had learned over time about Spaceship Earth.

It took 26 months to build Spaceship Earth.

Spaceship Earth is 180 feet tall and weighs 16,000,000 pounds.

All of Spaceship Earth could fit inside The Seas tank.

There are 11,324 tiles on the outside of Spaceship Earth. 

The narration was written by Imagineers, along with the help of Ray Bradbury.

Spaceship Earth is the 2nd most walked-under structure in the world; the 1st is the Eiffel tower.

Spaceship Earth is EPCOT's only opening day attraction left.

Spaceship Earth is legally certified as a roller coaster.

Spaceship Earth can hold up to 600 guests at a time; there are over 233 ride vehicles.

There is a drinking fountain in the backstage area for cast members that has the coldest water in all of EPCOT.

The space station mural at the front of the ride is extremely accurate, as NASA was consulted when it was created; there is a small hidden Mickey in the number "3" on the mural.

The computer system that takes your ride photo at the beginning of the ride is run on Windows 98.

The handprints in the caveman scene are the real handprints of the Imagineers who worked on Spaceship Earth.

There are several animatronics modeled after the US presidents in Spaceship Earth; Taft in the Egyptian scene and Taylor and Roosevelt in the Roman scene.

The Latin writing on the wall in the Roman scene is the 12 tables of the Roman law.

There used to be a projection in the Roman scene, but they got rid of it so guests could focus on what was actually going on in the scene.

The burning smell that everyone loves in the burning of Alexandra scene is the smell of hickory.

The graffiti on the wall in the burning of Alexandra scene is about love.

There used to be four scholars sitting around the table, but they removed one because they didn't like that his back was to the guests. They also used to be smoking hookah, and now they are drinking instead.

The scrolls in the library scene make a hidden Mickey.
